How to find out user of remote computer

Given an IP address or computer name, how can I, from a Windows XP machine, find out the name of the currently or most recently logged on user, without having to jump through hoops or remote connect to their registry or something like that?

I know that in Unix, there is the finger command... I'm looking for something like this.

thanks
