Re: XP Home --> Pro upgrade

I've been through a lot since I posted this request, but am now considering
this again. Yes, I want to do the upgrade, but the last time I tried I ran
into a technical problem. My XP Pro install disc complained that the XP
Home installation on the computer already was NEWER than the Pro version.
Therefore it stopped the upgrade. Did not even give me the chance to
override.
Any way around this?

It's the easiest and most-likely successful of all possible upgrades,
since so little has to be changed.
As always, though, when you take a big step like an operating system
upgrade, be sure you first have a backup of anything you can't afford to
lose, just in case something goes wrong.
But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home and
Professional are identical except that Professional includes a few
features (mostly related to security and networking) missing from Home?
Most home
users (even those with home networks) don't need and would never use these
extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.

Also note another point, not included in any of the above: Professional
allows ten concurrent network connections, and Home only five.
