Your second assumption is correct.
Cant see your images though.
This needs to be done on the machine that the external drive is connected
to.
Some software is the cause of this problem. Either Norton / Symantec or
maybe Acronis as well.

Saruman... I'm not adept at all with regedit. I'm a little confused
here. If I create a `key' as you specify I get a subdirectory under
Parameters that I can name IRPStackSize and create a value inside of
15.
Ending with ..\Parameters\IRPStackSize\default .... 15
I suspect above is NOT what you mean.
Or I can create a `string value' of IRPStackSize with value 15
.. ending with ..\Parameters\IRPStackSize...15
