XP COME event receiver

Hello

when I try to close my laptop (Dell 8600 Xp home with all updates/
corrections) I receive this message :

if you close the programm now, you will loose every thing which is not
saved....etc

this happens on xpcome event receiver ans sometimes with accapp.

also I can not eject my external hard disk "safely" ( icon in the ask
bar) it always says try again later but nothing changes. My external
drive is a iomega 300gb divided in three partitions 120 100 80

are the two things connected ? and how can I avoid this ?

Bad external hard disk
... my external hard disk went. ... power cord in a surge protector rather than in my UPS system. ... If I return the drive to Dell and get another, ... even if this is under warranty. ...
