Re: "Network" is missing from Windows Explorer

Chruin,

Windows 2000 has its own newsgroup:

microsoft.public.win2000.general

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.win2000.general

Do you have Network Places on the Desktop?

START | RUN | Type 'regedit' (without quotes) & press ENTER

Navigate to:

Current User:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

All Users:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

In the right pane, create:

Key Name: NoNetHood
Key Type: DWORD
Value: 0 = show in Explorer, 1 = Hide in Explorer

Note: Under Policies, Explorer key may not exist in the left pane. So you will
need to right-click the Policies key | New | Key & name it 'Explorer' (no quotes
(case insensitive)), highlight the newly created Explorer key & then create the
NoNetHood registry key in the right pane

Exit the registry editor

There is also a registry key to remove 'computers near me'

Same registry keys as above, but add this entry in the right pane:

Key Name: NoComputersNearMe
Key Type: DWORD
Value: 0 = show in Network Places, 1 = Hide in Network Places

Exit the registry editor

I can get connected to the internet but am unable to see any PC within
my home network because "Network" is missing from the Windows Explorer.
The OS is W2K SP4. Could anyone help me?
