This can only be done in the Windows Recovery Console. If you're not sure what this is, I would not proceed any further.
There are several steps to this procedure, and proceed at your own risk.

1) While in windows..Load Regedit and check the following keys. [Create keys if necessary in DWORD format]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole\
SetCommand = 1
SecurityLevel = 1

2) While in recovery console mode, type the following and hit enter after each line:
set AllowWildCards = TRUE
set AllowAllPaths = TRUE
set AllowRemovableMedia = TRUE
set NoCopyPrompt = TRUE

3) At the C:\ prompt
Type the following and hit enter after each line:
ren WINDOWS win
ren win "Windows"
type exit and hit enter to exit the recovery console and start windows normally.

** The quotations marks are very important!!

The above procedure will work on any file name that is not hidden.
