I tried all of the above, no success.
But I appreciate the help
Any more thoughts?
PS - I can see Java in the 'add / delete programs area' must not in the tool
bar or programs list

what might help is disablingThis sounds to me more like an IE7 problem, but have you gone to Add/Remove
all the add-ins in the ie and
ensure your registry is clean
and precise. so i am suggesting
the following:
1) uninstall java then reboot.
2) next download autoruns
from microsoft.com and
go to the i.e./browser tab
and disable "all" the browser
helper objects.
to disable an entry, check a line box
then double clicks it's file name
and you will see the new state
of that reg key to be disabled. do the
above for "everything" listed.
then reboot.
3) next clean your registry with
"eusing free registry cleaner"
then reboot.
4) then download your java
again and see if you are back
to normal.
ps: make a restore point or
backup your registry before
initiating step 1 above.
pss: as per the method in step
2 above, you may also want
to ensure there are no java
line items in the tab that
lists startups.
psss: when in autoruns go to the
menu bar and check the other
"users" listed as well and modify
as per step 2.
p(s)x4: good luck.
p(s)x5: keep us posted..

I have Windows XP (brand new install) and I/E 7.0...I have successfully
downloaded Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Version 1......When I go back to
the
Java website to test the installation, I get a Internet Explorer 'needs
to
close error' and it claims the error is related to
iexplore.exe..............Help...............Thanks much
PS - I have installed ALL I/E Automatic Updates
PSS - I have also tried the 'offline' Java install option as well without
success
PSSS- I tried turning off my virus SW and then installing, same results
Programs and checked that there is only version of the Sun JRE installed.
Uninstall all old versions. Your installation may be fine but you may be
having trouble with the Sun website. Do you have any third-party security
software that needs to be configured for this site?
