Which registry key has been disabled? Do you receive any error messages when
you try to enable the registry key or when you try to open Security Center?

Karen, Kelly's site is highly regarded as is Kelly. There is nothing malicious on her site, though you should always scan downloads. There is never a guarantee that any particular advice will fix a problem however, her edits have helped many thousands.

One should always have a backup and set a restore point before making system changes. Imaging the system with something like Acronis True image, saving the images to an external hard drive, is a wise move for protecting the system.

As an aside, there is no requirement that MVPs have a web site or participate in newsgroups. MVP is an honorary title given by MS to those that provide particular assistance to the MS community in any number of ways.
