Ok lets start from the beginning... started having problems with windows
acting up. locking up programs then got to the point of not wanting to load
windows at all. (yes I have a firewall and anti virus up and running all the
time, and run Adware, spybot a cpl times a week.)
I decieded to go ahead and reinstall windows xp for one reason I hadn't done
it in like 2-2 1\2 yrs. When xp cleared my drive and ran a scan disk it
found a bad cluster. so when the problem persisted after xp was totally
installed again I thought that maybe it was the hard drive and got a new
one.. my 40 gig is like 3 + years old anyways.
But alas the problem still happens. after loading xp I loaded the mother
board drivers and everything seemed to be still working fine. I then
downloaded Windows updates. after downloading and installing service pack 2
everything started to lock up again.
Funny thing is trying to boot up normally it wont even go into windows. but
when I load up in Safe Mode I get no glitches.
As far as the video card drivers I downloaded them from the card site and it
brought up the install screen and an error message pops up saying something
like "Can't find old drivers install will now abort."
Hope I clarified things a little bit.

Hi I just reinstalled windows xp after having some issues with it locking
up.
I got a new hard drive hoping that would help.. but.. that didn't happen.
still having problems.
I loaded xp and loaded the motherboard on and then went and updated
microsoft. when I downloaded sp2 it started locking up and not wanting to
even get into windows.
I can't get my vidio driver to load and the screen does seem to go on and
off when in windows envirnment. exept in safe mode it don't do that.
thought it was the HD but new one does the same. I took out my ram and
tried one at a time and it still did it with all 2.5 gigs... my cpu temp
is
122 deg F dont' know if that is to hot or its ok.. someone told me that if
it
was to hot it would lock up and reboot. but in Safe mode it is not having
an
issue.
Your post is unclear. What does "I loaded xp and loaded the motherboard on"
mean? What does "updated microsoft" mean? Downloaded SP2 - do you mean
installed or just downloaded the file? Is the system free of malware? Did
you have a firewall active before going online? Was the system running well
before whatever you did with SP2?
What does "I can't get my vidio driver to load" mean? Also what about, "the
screen does seem to go on and off"?
Start from the beginning. Why did you reinstall XP? What made you think it
was the hard drive to cause you to replace that? What were the problems?
What other hardware troubleshooting did you do?
How exactly did you load xp? Did you immediately thereafter install all the
update drivers for the motherboard, chipset, graphics card, etc?
