This is a specific machine that cannot be changed because of certain
programs that have to run on it (business oriented), otherwise I would just
re-install xp a be done with it. I just wanted to know if anyone had seen
this error from the start bar. It's my first time and I've seen a lot. I've
searched the net but did not find any one who had experienced this problem.
**When I click, "Start", then either "My Pictures", "My Documents", "My
Computer", "Control Panel", etc... I get the error above about file
association.

I had the same problem very recently, or something that looked like
it.

if it is the same thing your registry has problems and has lost the
ability to interpret shortcuts, ie filenames ending in .lnk. If
that's so you need to go to KellysKorner and download one of the patch
files to fix the registry. And as soon as you get your machine
running properly do a full backup, because that glitch could be an
early symptom of a major system crash, which you really don't want to
happen on a mission-critical business PC.

In fact if you can you should do that now before you start messing
with the registry...
