Try this:
- In Windows Explorer click on Tools -> Folder Options
- Click on the File Types tab
- Select Folder from the File Types list
- Click the Advanced button
Is Search listed as one of the actions? If so, select Explore or Open and then click Set Default. Click OK to exit these options and see if that takes care of it.

When I double click on a folder it opens with the search option instead of
the open option because when right clicking on a folder search is listed at
the top of the menu, and the open option is second or third instead of being
at the top.
How can I rectify this?
