192.168.1.1 is either the Ethernet card or the Modem IP address (I'm
thinking its for the modem.) Verizon didn't give you instructions on how to
set up your DSL connection using the PCMCIA software with your card?

More importantly: is your Westel 6100 modem able to handle wireless
connections. If yes, then the software that came with your card needs to be
set up for use with the modem, using a WEP key and password.

Example: the wireless modem on my folks network is 2wire-181 (2wire
(brandname)-181(last 3 digits of WEP key)) identifies the modem as an active
connection to the internet,when my wireless laptop roams for access,) and
the password is XXXXXXXX (usually the s/n of your modem unless you specified
it to be something else when you set your modem up)

I have figured out how to do a manual input of the IP address.
Whatever I put in, when I do an IP config, the IP and subnet mask
are still all 0.

I have Verizon DSL and am connected directly to a Westell 6100 modem.
The modem has been fully checked out and tried with another computer.
The Ethernet cable is good.
The internal NIC card (Dell Laptop) was replaced with a PCMCIA
Ethernet Card (and the card was tested on another computer.)
I can connect just fine with dialup but cannot connect to DSL.
Many of the experts are stumped.
