Can you be more specific with the error?
PID = Product ID.
What that usually implies (the general message you seem to be
floating around) is that something is invalid/not genuine.
What type of CD is the Windows XP Prro CD?
Retail or Upgrade edition?
At what point in the upgrade do you get this message?

It is an upgrade version and it comes up after I enter the key
Sounds like either you are entering the product key incorrectly or (0 or O,
1 or I, 5 or S, etc..) or the product key you are attempting to use isn't
legitimate/isn't the one for the type of CD (upgrade in your case) you are
using.
