Hi everybody,I don't know what you mean by a 10K hard drive but I am thinking that you
Does someone has a trick for speeding up computers ? I use a program
call Windows Cleanup !
It erase all the recent files, cookies... and after that I do a
defrag. But he still complaining. That guy has a xeon (2 processor)
and 2 gig of ram. He has a 10 K hard drive. So I don't really know
what to do to make him happy.
He is using Excel all day long... but it's generally a 90 000 line
file.
Thanks for all your help
are referring to a very large hard drive and not a very small one which 10K
would be.
The problem probably lies with his spreadsheet. It might be 90,000 rows long
but how many columns are there and what calculations are being made and how
complex are these calculations? His set-up for how calculations are done in
the options for Excel can greatly affect performance. If set to auto, every
time he adds data that requires a calculation, the whole sheet
re-calculates.
Just because there are more than 65,000 rows and about 250 columns it
doesn't mean that every cell can be crammed with information like sardines
in a can and still operate. I would think it would be more productive to
see if your clients methodology in using Excel isn't the source of his
problems.
Also, some people are just never satisfied no matter what you do.....is he
one of them?

Also, if the PC has two XEON processors, the version of XP should be
Professional as it is really the only version of XP that can use two
physical processors.- Masquer le texte des messages précédents -

SATA 1 = Ultra150 speeds
SATA II = 3G speeds
You need to look at what applications / processes / services are set
up to automatically start up and turn "most" off, depending on their
importance and his needs. Also, you need to boost the RAM more as the
problem could be related to the sheer size of the Excel sheet. It may
be too large for the system to process in RAM only.
RPM's have nothing to do with whether it's SATA I or II. While 7200 rpm may be common, there are 10k drives out there. Where have you been?
