How are you trying to reinstall windows 98? FYI there is a windows
98 newsgroup.

Sorry but that doesn't explain it. What kind of copy? Installation
CD? Image file? Backup? How are you using this "copy"? And again
it's best to post to a windows 98 newsgroup.
Better yet... what was installed on this laptop before you messed up? As it appears it could come with Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP (thanks to R. McCarty for providing the manual). Does it have a Microsoft Windows sticker on it? If so, which Windows does it say for? And if the key is provided, you are in luck.
