You're correct in that the original question was very poorly phrased, and open to multiple interpretations. We see a great many such posts, and rather than ignore them, we usually offer our best guess as to the OP's intent, and answer accordingly. If the OP needs another answer, he/she can rephrase the question and repost it.

(Of course, there are also times when we all say "Huh?" and ask the OP to rephrase or post in a newsgroup dedicated to his/her native language.)
