I downloaded one file, splitted to few files, with names FILE.zip.001,
FILE.zip.002, FILE.zip.003
They downloaded OK (I assume), but what's with the three-numbered
extensions after the .zip? Not clear, what program has been used to
split this files and how to join this archive?

Well WinZip will join split ZIP files. Other ZIP utilities will probably too. There are older versions of WinZip that doesn't quit (trial mode) after X amount of days at:

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=winzip

One with the Zip extension and it will find the rest of the numbered ones as long as they are in the same directory.
