There is probably an easy answer to this, but I cant find it or solve
it on my own.

I am running XP pro and Office 2003.

When I open any attachment from an email and then go to save it, the
default location is somewhere in the bowls of Windows instead of "My
Documents". I have checked and in Office, the "Save to Default
Location" is "My Documents". But I have to navigate there when I save
an emailed file...

Any ideas on how to get Windows to get out of this annoying habit?

Many thanks in advance....

The location of My Documents is::::C:\Documents and settings\My name\
My Documents......Any thing else is a shortcut to this location.

I think we got a little off topic. I appreciate the responses.

This is not a short cut issue. To restate: i open an attachment in
any office application and go to save it - the very first time - it
automatically directs me to a folder nowhere near "My Documents".
When I open a document any other way that is on my HD or other media,
I get the "My Documents" as the first option.

What I would like to do is have Windows not go to the C:/documents and
settings/user name/...etc....

Any other thoughts?

Thanks to everyone for their input so far!

You could also do a repair install on Office and tell it to repair all of
the shortcuts and that may work as well....
