Re: Help and Support facility

For the Updates, configure Automatic Updates in Start\Control
Panel\Automatic Updates.. enable fully automatic updates or with
notification.
For manual updates, go to Start\Help and Support and click on the "Keep PC
updated with Windows Update" link and follow the instructions there, you
will need to download a program to download updates.

For safe mode, click on Start Button\Shut down\click on the drop-down menu
to select the shutdown option and highlight "Restart" \and Accept\the
computer will seemingly shut down and automatically restart a second later,
as the restart begins, press the F8 key and hold, a
menu of different logon options will appear, highlight the "Safe Mode" logon
option with the arrow keys and press Enter.

For computers where users have two or more Operative Systems installed,
called dual or multiboot systems, (which is obviously not your case) the F8
key can be pressed as the restart begins, or after the Operative System is
selected in the OS logon menu... the only difference is you either press the
F8 key before or after you select the Operative System.

Please advise how and where I can get updates for XP Home edition 'Help
and
Support' . I have found one article on 'safe mode' in my version of XP
SP2
to be nonsense when compared to the same article as described on the MS
web
site. Please the examples below.

Article on safe mode found in 'Help and Support' on my PC:

"To start the computer in safe mode

You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be
available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut
down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialogue box, click Restart, and then click OK.
When you see the message Please select the operating system to start,
press
F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate option, and then press
ENTER.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation
that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER."

Article on safe mode on MS website:

1. You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be
available after you shut your computer down in step 2.

2. Click Start and then click Shut Down.

3. In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialogue box, click
Restart, and then click OK.

4.As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating
systems,
you can press F8 when the boot menu appears.

5. Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and
then press ENTER.

6.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation
that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
