Magic!

Right click any .vbs file and click Edit. .vbs file opens in Notepad so that you can see what's in it instead of Windows Script Host (Wscript.exe) actually running it.

There are two versions of the Windows Script Host: a Windows-based version (Wscript.exe), which provides a property *** for setting script properties, and a command-prompt-based version (Cscript.exe), which provides command-line switches for setting script properties. You can run either of these by typing Wscript.exe or Cscript.exe at the command prompt.

Same for a .reg file, right click and click Edit. .reg file opens in Notepad.

Same for .bat or .cmd files.

I am naturally curious and snooping in all of the file types mentioned above allows one to learn lots of stuff. ;-)

You amaze me with your theory about how many values it delete and how many
values it changes. As I mentioned it took that VBS file hardly a second
to do it. Before I finished pressing the button the task bar jumped to
line.
So question to you:

How one can open this VBS file and read what is in it?

xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs does a bunch of stuff. It deletes a
several registry keys, deletes a couple of values and sets a bunch of
values to 0. Maybe that's why Kelly and Doug call it fixall.

But I never delete such things and I kept a copy of it and here is its
name:
<xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall> It is a .vbs file of 3 KB.

Too bad I can't attach it here so you will have to look for it yourself
there.

In fact before getting the right one I tried few of them that didn't
work for me and this one took exactly an eyebath and it was done after
me spending hours on trying the mouse that is supposed to change the
registry
so it fixes it by itself.

I even emptied the quick launch folder just in case, then I unmarked the
Quick launch folder from appearing on the task bar, then I have
un,marked the ENTIRE task bar itself from appearing, NOTHING WORKED!!! Until this tiny VBS file did it.

Value Name: MinWidth
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Data: Number of pixels
MinWidth specifies the width, in pixels, of a minimized window.

* Values entered in twips (minus values) are rounded to the nearest
pixel
value. For instance, -17 converts to 1 pixel, and -28 converts to 2
pixels.
* The registry also accepts values in pixels (0 to 50); however, any
values entered in Control Panel will be converted to twips in the
registry.

Sizes here, having a minus sign before them, are in twips. A twip is
1/1440th of an inch, 1/567th of a centimeter and 1/20th of a point. As
it's an absolute measurement, it can't be converted exactly to pixels.

Even stupid ""System restore"" did not help,
then I tried on my own, a bit shaking...to enter REGEDIT to find the
problem but found nothing.

Read the whole thing.

Right click the taskbar then click to clear the Lock Taskbar option.

Move your cursor over the edge of the taskbar until it becomes a
double-headed arrow.

Left click and drag down to the single height.

Right click the taskbar then click Lock the Taskbar.

Now it can't be moved or resized unless the Lock Taskbar option is
cleared again.

If that doesn't work and you have Quick Launch...

Try small icons in Quick Launch and see what happens.

Right click the Taskbar | Select Lock the taskbar to unlock it |
Right click
an empty area of the Quick Launch area and select View | Select Small
icons

*View will not appear in the menu if the Taskbar is locked.

Also try placing all the toolbars,including the Quick Launch bar, on
one line then you can probably resize the Task Bar to one line.

I keep the task bar locked, but I wanted to put a new item in the
Quick Launch section so I unlocked the Task bar and moved the little
vertical perforated line further to the right to enlarge the quick
launch section. The task bar that used to be 1/4" high' somehow
grew higher to about
an inch and a quarter and this cover a good part of my screen.

I know how to position the mouse on the task bar until it becomes a
dual
edge mouse and I drag the bar a little down to restore it to the
1/4" it
was. But for two days now I am trying this trick to no avail and all

is that the Task bar either become higher still or it goes down
completely
and disappears at the bottom

I tried "System restore" few times but it refuses to restore
anything.
It tells me " Your computer can't be restored to that date."

I'll appreciate any help
