First, I am trying to upgrade to version 11 due to a problem with 10.
On v10, Windows Movie files load but, there is only audio, and no video.
Also, each time I launch MP 10, it goes through the steps as if it is being
launched for the first time after a new installation.
Anyway, I downloaded v11 and attempted to install it. I get almost to the
end of the installation and recieve the following error message: "Cannot
complete windows media player setup...". There is an option to launch "web
help". The error code is CODD2AFB. There is no technical help for this
specific error message.
This problem seemed to happen after applying the last set of critical
updates and attempting to do the Media Player 11 upgrade from Windows Update.
Is there any method to do a clean uninstall of 10 and start over? I already
tried the Control Panel ADD/REMOVE programs but even with "Show Updates"
checked, there is no way to roll back to a previous version of Media Player
as none appear. Only some security updates. (Which I did remove and reinstall
to no avail).
I suggest you post to one of the media player newsgroups. In my experience upgrading over a malfunctioning program normally doesn't work. Problems tend to follow with it. It's better to fix the underlying problems first. The exception to this is if it's a known issue with the program and the upgrade is intended to fix it, which I don't believe is the case here.
