Re: Time Synchronization Problem

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

David, you just posted this half an hour ago in your second thread and I just replied to it. . . I know it's frustrating when you're waiting for an answer, but it's really better to stick to one thread.

Never mind. . .

I think the point of directing you to that Microsoft article was to have you try some other time servers. Did you? (If you're not sure how, you just go to Control Panel | Date and Time |Internet Time, click the server name box to highlight it and type in the name of the new server. Then click Update Now and see if it works :-)

When I try to sync my clock I get the following message: An error occurred
while Windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com. The time sample was
rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than the host's stratum.

The first response I got was due to many problems with that server,
"time.windows.com" was always the first thing to be changed on my WinXP
systems. See if this article helps "A list of the Simple Network Time
Protocol (SNTP) time servers that are available on the Internet"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262680. When I went to that web page there
was only one site http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/ntp.html where you could
download anything that might correct the problem. After downloading Windows
could not open the downloaded file, so it was of no help.

The second response I got was Install *both* updates if not already done:

1. "Update for Windows XP (KB931836)"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=
66f1420c-df2d-400b-a8a9-ef9061a9a3ca

2. "Update for Windows XP (KB932590)"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=
1b38b995-a6f2-4703-95fc-f504ef4e4f39

I had previously downloaded both of the above updates and still had the
problem. I would appreciate any help in getting this issue resolved.
