Re: "My Computer" Very Slow

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Ken,

As you said in the past, NEVER trust anything

Just 'cos its on a website doesn't mean its safe Ken, does it?

You convinced me to give it a try and boy am I glad you did! I was
expecting to run some sort of script to update my registry but that
didn't happen. I had to go into regedit and manually add / change the
entries but the results are fantastic. When I bring up My Computer it
is almost instantaneous.

Thanks to everyone involved in getting this fix!

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Newbie, I may not be an expert, but I know enough to trust an expert
that is well above your leage.. the sugested registry fix, may not
solve the problem but it cannot cause damage that renders the system
useless. You can cause damage to a registry if you edit a part of
the registry that's involved with a vital part of the system, if it
is not, it simply can't. You should also know that the Kellys-Korner
website is run by a well known MVP and her reg-fixes are not
designed to cause damage to the registry. You are the first person
to doubt Kelly Theriot's capabilities so read up and take notice.

Yep, Kelly's site has been around for a long-time, and is one of the
very best and most-trusted Windows sites available. Her site has
helped many many thousands of people.

I would trust any of her fixes implicitly. Caution in deciding which
sites to trust and which not to trust is always well-advised, but
picking Kelly's site to warn people about is just silly, and
demonstrates to all of us just how much of a newbie "Newbie Coder"
is.

Brian,

I advise you never to download registry files from any site unless
someone like Microsoft as you cannot be sure of what they contain
if you don't know the Windows registry. Therefore, it could be
harmful & you could possibly kill your computer
