You will need to do additional problem determination to determine why the patch is failing to install. There is a specific newsgroup for problems with Windows Update, news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate. Please search the posts in that group and post a message there if the basic steps don't solve the problem.
As a start, look at C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpdate.log for error messages. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093 for information on reading that log file. This page is also helpful for troubleshooting problems with Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=906602.
Another thing you can try is downloading the update from Microsoft and installing it yourself after download. This often works where the automatic install fails for a specific patch, or may give you a more specific error message about the problem. If you use the Custom option on the automatically downloaded patches there should be a link in the information that you can follow to the location for download.

Had computer set up to do download automatic updates. I install on my time..
Lately, I find that I am always ready to install an update. When I check my
update history, the same update is installed over and over. Why would I get
reminder to update the same item multiple times?
