Windows Explorer wont work

I cant open windows explorer in any form. "My Computer" wont open nor
will any type of file or folder. Every time i try, the computer
crashes and then nothing happens. I'm running XP home edition on an
IBM T43 laptop which has worked fine for about the past year and a
half. Im also, because of this, running everything out of Win RAR
right now which happens to be fairly limiting. Weird thing is that
this started right after installing one of those annoying windows
updates, and tech support being what it is, I've found no one who knows
what to do. So someone please help me!
