I normally read this M/S newsgroup, "Windows XP General", using the web

Why? (unless you are behind a corporate firewall....)you would find it far
far better "experience" by dumping the horrible web interface and using a
proper news reader instead. You already have one on your machine - Outlook
Express prior to Windows Vista and Windows Mail and News in Vista.
See this on how to set up Outlook express as your news reader: (I expect
Windows mail and News is horribly similar....)
How to set up OE as a News reader:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/setup.asp

Can someone please tell me why I can no longer read them?
(Please don't tell me that I should use the Outlook Express newsreader.
I'm familiar with it and sometimes use it. But I find the web based reader
more convenient.)
OE will do things that you have never DREAMT of in the web access......
