All computer manufacturers are obliged by MS to provide some way to
reinstall/repair /recover the OEM installation.
Some provide seperate CD..others have a "recovery"partition that needs to be
activated upon boot.
The manual that came with your unknown system should tell you how to do
that.
most of these "recovery" procedures wipe all info on the HD and put the
system back to when 1st purchased.This means that everything on that drive
will be gone...so be sure you have the reinstallation medium for all
programs that you have added since purchase.You ,of course,should back up
all of your personal files.
If during the Vista install you actually got rid of that "recovery"
partition then you might have no choice but to go out and purchase
XP...either a retail version or contact the maker of your computer and
purchase the "recovery"CD specific to your model.
On the Vista newsgroups there is lots of info and advice.Most of the
installation advice suggests a Clean New install not an upgrade
install...maybe thats where your problem lies.My Vista installation was a
new installation and I have yet to run across a program that Vista will not
run.I have gone to the Hardware Manufact.websites and updated 99% of my
drivers to Vista drivers.

I've been having all sorts of problems with Vista. I really need to go
back
to XP. I've found a good number of articles on how to do just that, but
every way that I've read on how to do it requires the Windows XP disks.
My
computer did not come with it, it came pre-installed (OEM version). My
hard
drive is partioned; C drive contains Vista and D drive contains the backup
of
XP. Is there any way I can go back to XP considering that it appears to
still be on my hard drive? Is there any way I can boot directly from D
drive
instead of the C drive? Would doing that load up XP? I did not do a
"clean
install" of Vista, I only did the upgrade. If worse comes to worse and
there's no way in the world to get XP back on without the disks, could
Microsoft send them to me considering that I had XP pre-installed (OEM)?

I asking too many questions? Sorry, I just really need to go back to XP,
Vista keeps crasing on practically 90% of all my programs that ran fine
with
XP. Would it be illegal to ask someone to send me a copy of theirs?
