Moved files remain in source directory, but are corrupt!

I have recently found that sometimes when moving files between directories
it is not deleting the source copy. But the source copy will not play/run.
However if I reboot the PC the source file is still there and will now
play/run!
The file is also in the directory I 'moved' it to and runs/plays from there
too!
I first noticed this when moving files from a new 4Gb memory stick and the
files would sometimes remain on the stick in the same way and be 'copied' to
the destination directory. But now I find moving between directories on the
hard disk the same happens.
Additional info
For a while I was checking the properties of the source copy which showed
'Read only' but I could not remove that tag.
But more recently the same problem files are not Read only.
The files involved are mostly video files >600mb
I have run a chkdsk /f on the hard drive with no errors but still the
problems occur.
Thanks in advance
Nigel
