I just bought a new home computer. My old one had Win98 and of

the new one has XP and I can get the free upgrade to Vista.
Question: Do I want to go from using WIN98 to XP and then wait on
Vista or do I want to go straight from win98 to using vista?

You're life is going to suck either way - in as far as a learning

Might as well go all the way to Vista. At least be 'current' for
a few years.

I'm pretty sure it will support vista...

And from the wording of the rest of the post - I assume they are wondering
if they should upgrade the Windows XP machine to Windows Vista or just stick
with Windows XP. If they have not gotten used to Windows XP yet - they
would probably be better off going through one steep learning curve (just
Vista) than two learning curves (Windows XP from Windows 98 and then Vista
from Windows XP).
They do not say they are upgrading Windows 98 - they say they are going from
USING Windows 98 to... whatever OS.
So - since the machine is 'new' and came with a 'free upgrade to Vista' -->
I bet it works with Visat. How well - that's another story. ;-)
