I kno it worked last install because I used it and I had no issues. Until
that last week or two when uploading stopped working and things started
getting slower, et all. So, I naturally suspected spyware, malware,
virus....When noting worked to bring my system back to its working state, I
zeroed the HDD and reinstalled xp pro. I then set it up just like I did
during the last install.
I find that temp files usually take care of themselves. Just the same
occasionally I delete all *.tmp, *.chk, ~*.*, after a reboot. I also weekly
update and run:
Ccleaner, mru blaster, spybot, avg anti virus and anti spyware, spyware
blaster, lavasoft ad-aware, winpatrol, and occasionally some online scans. I
have used Hijack, long ago, but since I started my weekly routine (over a
year ago) I have not had to post a Hijack log.
pagefile is in default C:\
I compact OE before I do a backup, about monthly. BTW my oe store is on D:,
as it was last install and the time before. Favs are also on D:, like
previously.
I do have one setting that is not the same as before. Previously I have used
FAT32 for my storage partitions (D,E,F), however that option was not
available for E: and F: this install For some reason NTFS was the only
choice. Not so with D:, which had the choice of FAT32 or NTFS. I always use
NTFS for the system partition(C).
I left after uploading had reached 7% under safe mode. It looked like it was
going slower then usually, but that may have been my cable isp. I returned
90 minutes later and the browser said:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be
experiencing technical bla bla bla.
I closed that and opened a new instance of IE and tried to go to several
sites. All gave me "The page cannot be displayed...". So I rebooted into
normal mode and I can again cruz the net. Does safe mode internet access
time out?

How do you reach this conclusion "I am going under the premise that it
worked last install, so I reinstall with the same sys settings..."?
Where have you placed the pagefile?
How often do you compact Outlook Express?
How are you preventing your system from being overun by temporary internet
files?

Hope this helps.

Four partitions. C,E, and F are NTFS, D is FAT32. C is system. I
did a defrag since re-installing xp.
I never use disk cleanup. Occasionally I delete temps and delete
recycle files. I do other maintenance too.
I am not monitoring the pagefile. I am going under the premise
that it worked last install, so I reinstall with the same sys
settings...
Except I can find no problems with my hardware.
Think about my situation uploading to youtube and google video.
Everytime, it starts out good but gets slower and slower until it
stops. Sometimes connection speed will vary and I have
experienced this. But this situation is now very consistent. This
was the start of my computer problem. Then a week or two later I
noticed other things getting slower and somewhat spasmatic. For
maybe 6 or 8 weeks now, not a single video upload has completed.
Tonight I am going to try uploading in safe mode. I am not even
sure that I can start uploading in safe mode. But if I can, lets
see if it completes.

How did you format the drive? As FAT32 or NTFS? Is it as one
volume? With a new installation you have to run Disk CleanUp and Disk
Defragmenter as soon as you have finished installing Windows XP
updates and programmes! What readings are you getting from pagefilemon?
Have you tried adding memory?
