I have an ASUS motherboard (P5S800-VM-UAYGZ) which has a number of USB2.0 ports. When I plug a USB2.0 device in, I get a "this device can perform faster . . " message. If I click on the message I get "HI-SPEED Device attached to non-HI_SPEED Hub" message with the recommendataion "You mst add a HI_SPEED USB host controller to this computer to obtain maximum performance".

As far as I can remember I installed the default drivers on the installation disk when I installed this motherboard.

Is there a driver problem and how can I remedy this?

Look in Device Manager. Expand the USB controller section. Is there one that says Enhanced Host Controller? If so double click on it and look on the driver tab for driver details. Does it list usbehci.sys? If so some of the ports should be USB 2.0. Have you tried all the ports?
