it will only need phone reactivation when you change hardware, or
install on a different computer, i have 3 xp disks, and all of them
have done that to me at some point, i suggest making sure that each
time you install xp, that you do it on the same computer, otherwise
you will have to go through the telephone crap all the time, and if
you do have to ring them, tell tham as little as possible. i recently
read an article concerning microsoft and its vaarious products, did
you know it is no longer illegal to sell your windows disk, as long as
you sell the original, and not a copy, and you supply the key code,
you can now sell the disk to suit yourself. by the way if you dont
believe this, go to ebay and chaeck out how many vista 32 bit disks
are floating about right now. and if it were illegal to sell them you
wouldnt find them there. :)
Well microsoft still think they own the programes but they dont when
you buy an oem you then own it and can sell it do what you want with
it . myself i prefer linux but the internet is not supported in my
version which is version 10 mandrake and i am reluctant to support
microsoft because of their own you attitude

Per the OEM license Windows XP is not transferrable to another computer,
either by sales or otherwise unless the computer on which it's installed
is sold with it. You purchase a license to use the software.

If one waits 120 days, one can move a generic OEM XP to a different
computer and it will pass WPA and WGA. If MS isn't happy with one
computer/one license, they can just shove it. As far as the licensing scam
is concerned, I have yet to see a computer store, on line or brick and
mortar, that says they sell licenses. They ALL advertise that they sell
*software*. The fact that you and others have to continually tell people
that they bought a very restrictive license only proves my point. Ever
hear of the bait and switch scam?

LOL, isn't that like saying if you buy a book, you own the story written
inside. You are buying the use of a product under certain conditions, same
as when you buy music or anything else.

If I buy a book, I can do what I want to with the book, although your
comparison is faulty, being as a book cannot be installed on anything
except a book shelf and I can move it to any book shelf, coffee table or
anywhere else my little heart desires.



It's really most people don't *read* the licenses that gets them into
trouble, but they are quite happy to get it cheaper. You would at least
think that would make them pause and ask "Why?".

The stores don't advertise that they are selling licenses. They
advertise that they are selling software, which, obviously, is a LIE.

well seeing as this is such a bone of contention, i am going to ring
microsoft today and ask them whether or not an end user can like a
corporation buy additional licences, i mean i dont really give a rats
rear end if i have to buy licences, i am the kind of person who likes
to know that i cant get in the crap for the software i run, but to
clear up the matter and resolve some issues, i am going to find out,
and when i have the answer i will post it here for all and sundry to
see, and yes the retailers are at fault here too, they dont tell you
youare buying a licence, but i am sure if i chose to walk my disk into
town hall and cut it up into a billion pieces that microsoft would not
come to me and say "you cant do that, its our software you are cutting
up." so lets see what they really have to say for themselves.
