Rock,
I do similar and I'm glad to hear someone else does similar. Maybe its because of long habits formed starting with Win95..but in over 12 years of use from Win95 beta through XP Pro sp2 I've yet to have a single update failure.

One of these days, I'll clean out all the prior XP updates that have been replaced by later...but wading through everything might be worth more than its worth since drive space is economical and they all easily fit on a single dvd. Do you know of a link that provides only the required(seems like prior to Feb 07, it should be somewhere around ~100 give or take a few).

I use both Acronis(laptop) and Ghost(desktop)...been beta testing Symantec(Norton) stuff since day one when things used to fit on a single floppy. Though I do use Acronis TI on my laptop. Both have been reliable.
