Re: CD-rom not accessible for user with admin rights

Well guess what? It did the trick, she now has access to be cd-rom drive!
I never thought it was so simple, but your first suggestion worked.
Now the only thing is it still doesn't work for others with just 'user'
rights. I have another account with this user setting and the simple file
sharing is checked but still no access to the cd-rom drive. It's not a big
hassle but would be great to figure it out.

Hi blinko

I am guessing a bit here, but hope it might help. . . I think maybe you
either need to enable Windows Simple File Sharing or else set specific
permission for other users to access the drive.

Open any folder window, go to Tools/Folder Options/View and look at the
setting for "use simple file sharing" right at the bottom of the list.
I'm guessing you have this unchecked at the moment. This might be for
very good security reasons; but if you don't mind all the users of the
computer having access to everything except the files in your personal
profile, you could check it and see if that solves your problem. If you
right-click on the option you can get a pop-up explaining exactly what
simple file sharing is.

If you want to keep it unchecked and be able to choose who has access to
what: right-click My Computer and choose Manage. The Computer Management
window will open. Click on Help > Help Topics, then expand Shared
Folders and the How To. . underneath. The first topic, How To Share a
Folder or Drive, is the one you want.
