HI
I have been beta testing Vista on a HDD I put in the computer. I have now
finished testing and removed the HDD from the computer. The problem is I keep
having to boot into windows boot manager which thinks that I have still got
the other drive in. And when I bootup the computer it wont go straight into
XP. What I need to do is to get rid of the boot manager. Has anybody ideas on
how to do this.
Hi Robin,
In order to fix your booting problem, you can try using the Windows XP
recovery console. The next time you boot your computer, make sure that
you have the Windows XP CD inserted in you primary CDRom drive. When
you reboot, you will be taken to the Windows XP installation, where
you will be given the option of using the Recovery console. Press R to
choose the Recovery Console.
When you enter the recovery console, you will be asked to choose you
primary Windows XP partition. Choose this partition and a command
prompt will appear. On the command prompt type "fixboot" (without
quotation marks) and press enter. Then type "fixmbr" (without
quotation marks) and press enter.
Thats it.
For more information on the recovery console, please goto:

Hope this helps.
