Unable to install open license version Windows XP Professional on to new Dell 9200 Dimension

Operating Systems:
Windows XP Professional, Open License Version

Symptoms:
Unable to install and image a fresh Open License Version of Windows XP
Professional on a nice new Dell 9200 Dimension system.

Other Identifying Issues:
(0x0000007b) error upon initial installation (doesn't even get to setup
screen)
(0x00000073) error upon initial installation (doesn't even get to setup
screen)
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer"
"system not fully installed" after running sysprep and restarting computer.
(Issues may be seperate and unrelated to each other)

Cause(s):
XP Setup incompatible with new hardware on the Dell Systems.
WMP 11 (Windows Media Player 11) incompatible with old sysprep.

Fix / Workaround:
- The Windows XP CDs that came with your Dell computer have certain drivers
on it that are not included with even the latest version of the Windows XP
Open License Version CD. Install Windows using the Dell CD, then when that
installation is done, boot up the computer and install your version over
that one by running the setup from Windows..
- The Windows XP Open License CD should have Service Pack 2 streamlined unto
it in order to be compatible with the new PCI Express hardware. Trying to
use a CD without the Service Pack could cause a blue screen crash.
- Windows Media Player 11 has an issue which causes the installation to
completely fail and crash if 'sysprep' is used after your installation.
Either uninstall Windows Media Player 11 before using sysprep or do a search
on KB925507 and find a more updated version of sysprep.
