I have tried all the paths suggested and still have the problem.
I cannot find any reference to the "The Folder Path Contains an Invalid
Character" in the registry, I used "FIND". Have you any thoughts on this.
I have downloaded Avery prog. v3.0, still delivers the message.
As the folder referred to no longer exists, presumably the problem must lie
in the registry somewhere but why should it refer back to this extinct folder
whem my system works normally when sending data to and from the new folder.
This folder is on the same drive as the extinct one was.
I am starting to believe that I will have to resort to another clean
re-install.
If I do so, how should I transfer my data to the 2nd hard drive? This data
is currently in a folder on the second drive, should I rather copy the
contents of the folder directly to the drive, if this is possible?

I have three Avery Wizard install files and they are all InstallShield
files. Wiz00e.exe, AveryWizardForWord2002-English.exe and

I assume that you downloaded the install file from Avery's website. That
file could be corrupt, dump it and download another one. This is a common
problem.

I did a clean reinstall of XP Pro onto a PC with one hard drive.
I then connected a USB external drive and copied the old "data" drive off
another PC to it.
I called the new folder, that I copied the old data drive to "G Perrins
1". G was the old drive letter and Perrins1 was the name of the PC.
I have since renamed the folder with no effect. The "Problem" folder no
longer exists.

I am currently trying to install "Avery labels" and the "Avery Wizard"
starts to run and then stops with the error message.

Although I am not having problems with MS Office should I still run the
Windows installer cleanup prog?
I am wary because I do not want to lose Office.

The drive is NTFS.

You did not state when you get the error. When installing software?
With Installshield or Windows Installer? What software?

Something messed in one of these keys.

Some folder may actually have an invalid character.
The following characters are invalid as file or folder names on Windows
using NTFS:

/ ? < > \ : * | " and any character you can type with the Ctrl key

In addition to the above illegal characters the caret ^ is also not
permitted under Windows Operating Systems using the FAT file system.

Also a space at the end of the name or a period at the end of the name.

None of these solutions apply to my situation.
It seems to centre around the fact that a drive is concerned.
Somewhere there appears to a reference to a drive/folder(on the
replacement drive) that no longer exists.
I tried renaming the folder on the new drive that I thought was causing
the problem but this didn't work.
I can find no reference of this error affecting XP.

I believe this arose when I copied a complete drive onto a new hard
drive. This error stops me installing some programmes from my hard
drive.

I am running XP Pro +SP2.
