I agree completely. I just didn't want the OP thinking that clearing out
the pagefile was going to make a difference when, as you said, it isn't the
problem.
There's also the fact that the OP claims it's a clean install. But if it
is, why would he/she need to clean up files and/or move files around.
Doesn't make sense to me.

The OP wanted to clean it out.. easy enough.. dump the entire page file
and open a new one..
System managed is best for 99% of users as the computer will invariably
used for a variety of tasks..
The Page file can expand rapidly if there is not too much installed RAM..
The OP assumes that the page file is the problem, but I'll wager that it
isn't.. the problems will stem from elsewhere, but as the OP has not
offered much information, none of what has been said will be of value..

Mike Hall replied with how to clear out the page file and that will work
in resetting it back down to a smaller size, but it still doesn't stop
whatever is causing it to get bloated from happening again. One
question, what's the initial size that you're setting it at? What I'd do
it set the minimum to 1024 and maximum to 2048. Or you could just set it
to 1024 for both min and max and that'll keep the page file down to 1Gb.
If you want to use 512, go for it... I'm not saying that you won't run
into issues later on, but that all depends on what all you have running
on the system. With 2Gb of physical memory, a 512 pagefile should do in
most cases.
If you have a clean install of Windows XP with no other programs
installed, I can say with 99.999% certantly that you will have absolutely
no problem whatsoever moving files around. Moving and/or deleting files
does not cause the page file to grow by itself. I also don't understand
how you can say that you need to move files around to regain disk space
when you also claim that you have a clean install of XP. If it's a clean
install, there should be nothing other than the OS and the programs
you've installed so far. If that's filling up your hard drive, then
perhaps it's time to look at a larger drive.

Thanks for reply but I need a solution on how to clean the swapfile.
When this happen I use Explorer, else the computer is running most 24
hrs
but right now I need more space on my disks. When moving or erasing
files
there is other programs in background but they are there all the time.
Its only while using Explorer I got problem.
My question was how to clean the swap file as Windows cannot manage it?
Forget about the Explorer, the problem is still built in in Windows and
has
always been.
I dont care if Nortons, malware or Explorer is the "mal" program. It
should
never happen in a modern OS that is paid for. Windows is not freeware
and it
should work.
I dont expect Linux to be better if freeware but MS selling this
"mal"ware
without support and thas very bad. I have paid for it and I want a
working
OSso that I dont need to reboot every 15 minutes.
Someone here must know how to clean up the swapfile.

What spyware/malware programs are you using? Explorer itself will not
create a huge swap file. If you had a clean install of XP before you
install any programs at all, try moving the files around or doing
whatever
else is creating a huge swap file. I bet you'll notice that it runs
very
smooth with little to no swap file increase. Then install one program
at a
time and test again. This way, you'll find the culprit and be able to
stop
blaming it on explorer.

I have a new XP install with all shields up before connecting to net.
I have Nortons Internet Security. Its firewall and AV, several
malware
program.
The only mal I have installed is Explorer and it has been the problem
with
all Windows. I never saw Windows 1 and the first one I really used
beside
MSDOS was Windows 3.
Window works very slow as it need to make swapfile bigger and bigger.
I dont set this size, its Windows. And Windows cant still handle the
size
of
swap.
I have 2 GB RAM and now the swap file is building to 3 GB.
Its 5 GB memoryjust to move files between disks.
With my old install I skiped the swapfile and it was better but I
think I
cant do that now as I use more memory for some programs.
But the problem with big swap file is only when moving files AND I
also
use
thumbnails to see images. Move or erase.
If I dont use the tumbnails I instead will need to open a lot of
files and
that will probablyuse even more memory.
I have seen a lot of complaints here that Explorer cause memory
problems
but
no solutions on that problem yet.
