Re: "Not Responding"

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I recently had the same problem. I narrowed it down to Adobe Reader/Adobe
Acrobat, programs that have been growing exponentially over the last few
years and always seem to have more updates to install.

I now run FoxIt Reader in place the Adobe pdf junk and I no longer have IE 7
connection problems.

I just did myself a major favor and uninstalled 7 and went back to 6. Now
those pages that were not responding load with no problem.

This is probably a stupid issue that has been bugging me for the last two
weeks.

When I save files from either Outlook, Adobe, Word, etc. it's starting to
randomly to become non-responsive. Example:

Normally, I would save a file attachement from an email I received by
just
click Save As and choose a folder I desire to save it in with no
hesitation
whatsoever. Now when I click on a folder in the Save As window, it acts
as
though it's not responding. Sure enough, at the top of that window it
says
(Not Responding). However, after about 30 to 60 seconds, it would then
open
up to that folder. Thereafter, I could open another folder without a
hitch
but if I wanted to go further into the directory tree, it would do it
again...Not Responding.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? If so, what's the solution?

Note: I've updated my XP with Windows Update about that time it started
acting up. One of the update is Windows Media 11. Here's the list of my
updates in the last two weeks:

Also note that I did not make any changes to my Windows XP settings other
than these two things:

In msconfig, I disabled one program called Altiris which I have no
earthly
idea what's it for other than a local recovery program. And in Outlock,
I've
added "Junk E-mail" to my Favorites Folder.

I'm baffled.
