Re: XP Home SP1 to XP Home Sp2 Upgrade

I have about three years old Dell computer that came with original XP Home
SP1 and did upgraded to SP2 until the virus/spywares messed up my PC badly. I
decided to reformatted the HDD about few months ago.

Currently, my PC is clean now and I needed to upgrade it to SP2 in order to
test the compatibility for new Vista.

The problem is I cannot find the right download file somewhere on MS
Downloads. I don't use the Automatic Updates because I hate to have it
clogged up too many "KBXXXXXX" files on my Add/Remove folders.

I was wondering if I could borrow my friend who have XP Home SP2 version CD
and use my own current product key, will it work?

I'm not sure I understand your logic here. Whether you use Automatic Updates or go to the windows update site and do the custom install or install updates manually (you do keep the system updated with the latest patches correct?), those updates will still display in Add/Remove and their uninstall folders in the \Windows folder. You know they can be removed? As long as things are stable, and you don't think you will need to remove the updates, then use Doug Knox utility to remove their uninstall files and the corresponding entries in Add/Remove.

That said, the update to SP2 is one update I would not do using windows update. Malke gave you the best advice, to slipstream SP2 into the installation CD and do a clean install, or next best, download the full installation file, burn it to CD and install.
