OK let's start with NTFS permissions. How does this work?
Next let's say I don't want this user to access ACCESS database in
Office only. Can this be done while allowing them to access the rest
of office?
Yes, but don't worry about the programs - first worry about the data. Who
cares if he can launch Access, if he can't get to your files?
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10877_11-6152061.html may help.
You can use policy settings to lock down access to a lot of things (such as
to allow a user to use only specific applications), but be very careful as
you can lock yourself out if you don't know what you're doing.
Security is a big topic - but this should be good to start with.

Sorry it's taken me a while to respond. I have XP Pro SP2. There is
a user I have given restricted rights an account as opposed to
Administrator. Can I as the Administrator restrict what user Brown
can and cannot do?a
Yes, to a degree. NTFS permissions I already described. What
specificially are you trying to control?

To manage what Brown can and cannot access in general. Is there
not a control panel of sorts that shows the privileges each
account holder has and what they can have access to in a network
environment or a local PC?
Not really. You control access to folders & resources via NTFS
security permissions - but you haven't mentioned whether you're
using Home or Pro. Home doesn't let you disable simple file sharing
or even access the NTFS tab directly unless you boot into safe mode
& log in as an administrator, to the best of my knowlege.
Re network - I'm not sure what you mean or how that relates.
It might help if you provided more specific detail of what you've
got and what you want to do (or to disallow).

Hi,
What is the way to manage a restricted from an administrator's
account? Another words let's say we have the following scenario:
Smith is the administrator's account & Brown is the restricted
user's account. Does Smith have a way from his account as
administrator to manage the
restricted user's account? If so how is this done? Thanks in
advance fellas. AJ
What exactly is it Smith wishes to manage? You can open up the
users applet in control panel to reset Brown's password, or
change the account type, whatnot.
