Sorry it took so long to reply but my son was unavailable to attempt the repairs. He tried a different, known good; video card and all works as normal-for now. Thanks for the responses. Steve T.

what are the results when the
video card is "removed" and the
monitor is simply plugged into the
regular video port on the motherboard?

After 10-20 minutes on, the monitor starts to pixelate, fade, distort, mouse
pointer disappears, etc. XP Home edition. Nothing shows up under Device
Manager as trouble. Drivers have been checked for updates under Display and
are OK. 3 different monitors have been used with the same result. PC was
opened up and dust blown out with compressed air. Video card was
re-inserted. AV and anti-spy programs updated and run with no problems
reported. PC belongs to son 200 miles away and we are communicating by phone
trying to resolve problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you, Steve
T.
