I was looking through my Program folders to see what programs I might

Realplayer. Do I need it? I'm not an AOL user. How do I get rid of it?

A google search yielded nothing useful. What makes you think it's AOHell or Realplayer related? If you aren't using it, uninstall it, and see what happens, I guess. I'm presuming you generally practice safe hex - have your Windows & other apps fully patched, are behind a good firewall, have good/regularly updated antivirus software, etc - you might also try Windows Defender from MS to run an antispyware scan.

When doing a Google search, accurate spelling helps. A Google search for GtAOD (as in your subject) rather than GAOD (as in the body of your message) does suggest that this is related to AOL-on-Desktop. It may have been added with the installation of any number of other apps whose mfrs have a relationship with AOL, including Real and Netscape. There is supposed to be a relevant article here: http://www.theludwigs.com/archives/000913.html although you apparently have to register to see it (I didn't).

Because it isn't in Add/Remove Software, it probably was never installed. If you don't feel comfortable just deleting the entire folder, rename it and move it out of Program Files. Give it some time, and if nothing you care about seems to have been disabled, you can then delete it.

Sounds right. Next time I see my optometrist about my contact, I'm going to complain. :-) [I am serious though]
