Have done:- >Start > Run > conf, and a window opens with a "General.idf"
file and icon.
When I double click/or right click, it asks which program to open with.
Also, what will this prog' allow me to do?

Weird. Never seen that.
Usually you just follow the prompts to get the main program, and from there the help documentation will tell you all you need to know.
You can use it for the equivalent of Remote Desktop, as you initially asked.
