I have an HP Pavilion a706n. The HD crashed in it, so I replaced it.C:
Windows XP loaded fine and runs fine, but the HD is assigned H: instead of
(also the CDROM is G: instead of d:). The 4 removable drives arerecognized
as C, D, E, & F.
How do I change this?
Contrary to some other replies, you cannot change the drive
letter of the system drive in the Disk Manager and you must
not leave it as H: either because this will cause lots of problems.
Do this to restore it to C:
- Run regedit.exe.
- Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
- Rename \DosDevices\H: to DosDevices\C:
- If \DosDevices\C: is already taken, delete it.
- Reboot the machine.
.
