Re: CD won't write in XP

Thanks Petey, Ken and Lizzie.

Petey, maybe I'll have to do what you say.
Lizzie, I did what you did, but, alas, no joy.
Ken, I checked all the CDs supplied with my Dell PC, and among them is
Roxio Easy CD Creator. This application continues to work fine.
According to "Windows XP Inside Out", Windows Explorer describes its IMAPI
CD-Burning COM Service as 'Used by the built-in
CD-burning feature in Windows XP'! (Appendix F: Managing Services, page 1306
in my book). The use of this built-in CD writing feature is described on
pages 467 etc.
I was able to copy files to CD (by dragging and dropping or right clicking
and sending to CD)since I got my PC over three years ago, until recently it
stopped working. Obviously I can use Roxio and Nero for writing to CDs now.
HOWEVER(!) another application (Exact Audio Copy) which I really want to
continue using stopped writing to CDs at the same time, having worked for
over a year.

Right here. Windows has no native ability to write to a CD simply by
dragging files to it. You get such a facility only if you have third-party
packet-writing software, such as Ahead Software's Incd, installed.

Maurice, you say "has stopped writing files to CD." Did it ever work this
way? If it did ,you had such third-pary software installed.

If it used to work, but now doesn't, clearly something is wrong with that
software installation Tell us which product it was. You might want to try
reinstalling it.

Windows Explorer has stopped writing files to CD. When I drag a file
to the
CD drive, I get the error message "There is no disc in the drive.
Please insert a writable CD into drive E:\.", even though there is a
fresh CD in the
drive. How can I fixt this problem, please?
