When I do a normal shutdown, it appears to shutdown okay, however, I can't
restart the computer using the normal on/off button. Instead, I have to
unplug or switch off the power button on the back of my computer. Once
that
switch is powered off, I can power it back on. Then the normal computer
push button will reboot my xp computer.

Any ideas what would do this?

Press the normal on/off button for ten seconds.
