Hi All,
In the past, I upgraded my system from XP SP1 to SP2 and all worked
well. After many months, I installed certain software(NetXPert) which
intercepted my browsing experience weirdly due to which I uninstalled
NetXPert. But now my IE6 has been corrupted.
Whenever I try to close
any IE window, I get the windows error message and asks for sending
report to Microsoft. The error happens in oleaut32.dll module. I do
have IE6 with latest service pack for it from Microsoft website.
THAT is the issue that must be fixed first and prevents SP2 from installing;
something is borked in the system. YOu'll have to hvae the machine working
right before SP2 can be installed. Have you tried a Repair Install? Second
R option when booting from CD; NOT the first R option!

To solve this, I tried to reinstall my XP SP2(facing problems in
system operations as well like virtual scrolling disabled, searching
files not opening up).
Now while reinstalling XP SP2, the setup wizard itself crashes while
performing "Finishing/Cleanup" operation. The following is the error
message I get every time I try XP SP2 again and again both in Safe
mode as well as in Normal mode.
"error at the "Finishing Installation/Performing Cleanup" part of the
install: "Service Pack 2 has encountered a problem & needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience." AppName: update.exe; AppVer:
5.5.1005.0; AppStamp: 40f8193a; ModName: ntdll.dll; ModVer:
5.1.2600.2180;
I can't figure out the solution for reinstalling Windows XP Service
Pack 2.
Do any guys know how to safely reinstall XP service pack 2 and get
around with this weird error message?
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards,
Nitin
