I can see that this is another way we get "stung" by the "evil empire". Computers are continually advancing in their abilities, so people want to upgrade their PCs so that they can take advantage of the benefits. But we can't upgrade the motherboard, processor, and memory without significantly changing the machine the OS is originally installed on.
No wonder piracy is so prevalent. We can't upgrade our computers without helping to keep Bill on the top of the "World's Richest" list by buying another copy of Windows.
Jeez, what a stupid way of licensing. How hard would it be to make the license transferrable from one machine to another? And what happens if you drop your laptop and it breaks? What if you decide you want a PC instead of a laptop. Kind of ridiculous IMO.
But, I'm not a bazzillionaire, so I guess I'm just not as smart as those Microsofties.
Some people become billionaires by being careful with their money
and assets. What sting? There is nothing to stop the laptop owner
from selling it complete with the OEM operating system and then
replacing it with a new laptop and its OEM operating system. And all
of this is done at tremendously low cost, taking into consideration
the immense discounting that is involved for the OS. And for desktops
and computer parts, there are different rules that are involved. All it
takes is to follow the proper fitting rules. Or perhaps you might to
take the easy way out and force an annual licensing fee for each and
every system.
