I checked many of the suggested sites and ventured off to others too. I
found CA Associates to have the best Scanner as it found a couple files that
NONE of the others did. I have other Sites I want to get to when my eyes
quit burning

I wouldn't bet I've found all the bad entries in the registry but there's a
noticable improvement inasmuch as I haven't lost the exe, reg and lnk
associations in the past 12 hrs. Thanks to Doug Knox, the worst was over
after installing all his
Reg fixes plus learning of a way of to get into the Registry when all the
associations are continually getting zapped.

I tellya this has been a rough few days.

I had: Gator.com, GatorFDDLI.log, Grokster, Lop.com, Linkz,
MUIDrop.1326.exe,
I installed Morpheus some time ago to get one album and I think he may have
brought guests. I had shortcuts of my shortcuts scattered throughout
Favourites, lost Stickie notes; Search asking for a Password, files breading
throughout my C Drive - like 50, and 100 and 150 at a time, even after the
target file is removed.

Other things too but I've lost the ability to remember nor can I read the
many notes I made throughout this ordeal.

All this and I've still got that White Square sometimes with the Path of a
MUI file in it's bliue border, prior to booting into Windows.

The Windows screen with the progress scale, then the Square on either a
Black or Blue Screen, Click OK or wait a minute for it to disappear, then
"Loading your Personal Setting" then immediately into Windows IMO MUI
files are loaded first, mine delayed by a corrupt file or looking for a
further file, works through the hang then my Personal Settings loaded. I
haven't worked up nerve to go into the BIOS but is there something I should
check for?

I found a MSKB article with I think, an MUI update. Haven't read it yet as
I wanted to get a Big Thank You posted tonight for the replies that helped
so much by pointing me in the right direction. I didn't have a clue where to
start. Now I could write a Book! LOL I don't think u realize just how much
your contributions help Novices. ...

Searching Google to solve my white patch problem Booting into windows, it
appears I've got two undesirable files:

C:\Doc & Set\Owner\Application Data\Install.dat 1,388 KB 30Oct 2006

C:\Windows\HWS.exe 27KB dtd 25Oct 2004

Should these files be deleted and if so, can I just rt click and Delete or
is there a more desirable way to proceed perhaps in the registry?

I didn't get a suggested fix for my post 03Jan 2007 "White Square on
Screen
when Booting into Windows" - maybe there's an association?

Running Zone Alarm, JV PwrTools, Ad-Aware Pro, Windows Repair Pro,
Registry
Mechanic - all produce Nil.
Hopefully someone will advise. Thx

You are better off not using a registry cleaner. They can do more harm than
good.

= Good to hear you near completion of recovery.
First Try to Run Disk Clean Up on your Partition, by double clicking My
Computer and Right click the Partition (C:\) and slect Properties from the
list.
Then on the system properties click on Disk Clean up and let clean all
Temprary internet files, recent files all check the boxes to be sure all
checked and click Ok to clean up th Drive/Partition and then run the
Defragment utility either in normal mode or Safe mode.
Then back up your Important Data on a removable Sotrage, CD/DVD.
= Open the Run Command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and get your XP CD handy it will ask you to insert
it in to repair the corrupted/damaged files/folders by the infestatio, it
will take a while.
= If still have trouble proceed with the following:
Read this article from Michael stevens site on how to perform Repair install
to your system:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

= Again you need to raise your security on your laptop by configuring a
tight security settings on both your Anti-Virus and your Browser security
settings/privacy settings and check for any suspected traffics and monitor
the source application/processor you may still need cleaning job to do?.
Also get the Ms Security updates by runing the windows updates engine.
